PRO Osmotic power generation system
We are developing the world’s most advanced technology, an Osmotic power generation system (PRO; pressure retarded osmosis) that utilizes the difference in salt concentration. This technology utilizes the forward osmosis phenomenon that occurs due to the difference in salinity (difference in osmotic pressure) between seawater and freshwater. It is a mechanism to generate hydroelectric power by utilizing the phenomenon that fresh water moves naturally from the seawater side through the membrane. It is a completely new renewable energy that can generate stable power regardless of the weather and time of day.
Feature
- Energy is generated using the osmotic pressure difference between the concentrated seawater discharged from the seawater desalination facility and the treated sewage water discharged from the sewage treatment facility.
- Since the concentrated seawater used for power generation has the same salinity as seawater, the environmental load is reduced compared to discharging the concentrated seawater directly into the sea.
Test plant in Nagasaki
We have been developing for many years to improve the efficiency of power generation systems and advanced treatment technology for treated sewage. We will continue to aim for further innovation so that it will be one of the proposals for global energy issues.
